Karen and Matthew, a mother and son partnership, have run The Melbourne Arms since September 2015. They were previously at The Swallow Hall Golf Club at Wheldrake for 5 years, where they catered for golfer's teas and bacon rolls. They also held Weddings and party functions for up to 150 guests and became well renowned in the area for developing the Sunday carvery, enjoyed by all their customers. Karen is the Landlady and manages the front of house alongside Anthony, the very popular and fully qualified Bar Manager, who can gladly assist you in your choice of cask ales or fine wines if required. Matthew is the Chef and he gained his training and qualifications at York College. He has developed an excellent reputation through using the finest, locally sourced (where possible) ingredients combined with his care and attention to detail to provide wonderful home cooked dishes , the success of which is reflected by the amount of diners coming back on a regular basis to our establishment. Matthew is assisted by Ryan, who also gained his chef status via York College and who is developing his own signature dishes to the delight of our diners. Tallula, Charlotte, Saskia, Nathanial and Jack make up the rest of the team, who are fully committed to providing our very best to ensure that you enjoy your experience at The Melbourne Arms.
